Home is a kick in the pants
I’m truly thankful that our new house has worked out. In 2003 my wife Luna literally had to nag me into house-hunting. What a chore! After West Seattle came up dry for us, we started looking at houses in the central core, coming up dry there too. We’d driven past our house 2 or 3 times on our way to other parts—-it’s right along a main road—-but had ignored it completely until Luna suggested that we take a look at least. The house didn’t grab me at first. We had to look in a couple three times more. Even then, I was still maybe only 70% there—-I was in no pressing hurry to buy—-when Luna finally pushed me into calling our agent about an offer.
All the “renaissance-y” stuff that gives life to Columbia City—-the Rainier Vista re-development, proposed Kroc community center, new light rail station, library renovation, farmer’s market, BeatWalk, all the new restaurants—-I learned about after we closed on the house, if you can believe that. That’s why all this good new neighborhood stuff just feels like gravy!
Its all been a huge, sheer stroke of luck (with thanks to Luna for getting me off my ass). Thank goodness that Luna, at least, has great instincts.
