Our evening out

Yesterday, Luna and I enjoyed our first evening out together sans Sophie (who’s in her seventh week, now). My Mom agreed to watch Sophie, amiably enough, but this was her first time. Luna already had everything laid out: outfits, burp cloths, diapers, and milk expressed into two Dr. Brown’s bottles. I made a plate of cookies and drew a glass of water for Mom, then changed Sophie’s diaper. I said, “The easiest ways to calm Sophie are to bounce her on the yoga ball or to take her onto the deck.” We’d only be gone four hours! Then we were off.

I loved having Luna in the passenger’s seat again, in front! We held hands, reconnected, becoming the couple we were before Sophie arrived. Believe me, having to juggle an infant everywhere you go is a whole, other dynamic.

We saw “Must Love Dogs”. It’s a light romantic comedy starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. Luna liked it well enough; everytime I looked over to her, she was smiling brightly at the screen. But the film sure made me feel sad for singletons of a certain age.

Luna used her mobile to check in on Sophie, once immediately before the film started and again after it ended. You never know, right? To my relief, Sophie was doing just fine (she’s been such a good baby). With Mom’s help, I look forward to more sanity-saving evenings out.
