Capitol Hill walkabout

Yesterday I needed a haircut and saw Oanh, my usual stylist. As she’s going to deliver a baby boy in September, we chatted about babies. (Where was Sophie? In her stroller with a good view onto my haircut.)

Then I pushed Sophie all over Broadway. Cal Anderson Park beckoned, but was still surrounded by chain link fencing. So the first stop was Half Price Books. I picked up Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Magic Box, a supplement for the Buffy RPG. Then to the Liquor Store. The counterman was a gas. For the best margaritas, he said I’d want Sauza Hornitos tequila, triple-sec, and “the juice of 17 limes and one orange.” Purchases dangling off the Maclaren, I continued up the street.

In the Seventies, my grandma would take me for strolls with my brother up Broadway. Broadway’s shops are in constant churn. Everything changes. I’d like to know what shops from my grandma’s time are still open.

Update: I ran into Thomas Christiansen. What a guy! My route home took us past one of my Mom’s rental houses. There was Thomas, heaving rubbish into his blue pickup parked in front. Naturally I was happy to stop to chat with him. I showed off Sophie (he’d only met her the one time we had dinner at T&T Seafood in Edmonds), who sat amiably in her carseat until hunger caused her to wail for the bottle. Thomas and his brother Martin once owned the apartments across the street. We were all together once then on 13th Avenue. Good times.
